Winter Solstice

By Caroline

The winter solstice — usually falling around 21st or 22nd December — is the shortest day of the year. This is when the sun moves to its southernmost point and the Northern Hemisphere experiences its longest night.

Spiritually, the solstice is one of the most powerful days of the year. It marks the turning point — the moment when darkness peaks, and then begins to recede. The light starts to return. However slowly, however quietly — it is returning.

Ways to honour the Winter Solstice:

🕯️ Light candles at dusk to welcome the returning light. Each flame represents hope, warmth and the promise of brighter days.

🌿 Create an altar with seasonal elements — pine, holly, crystals, a candle. Spend time in quiet reflection.

📝 Write down what you are releasing as the darkness peaks — what no longer serves you, what you are ready to let go of.

🌟 Set intentions for the returning light. What seeds do you want to plant as the days begin to lengthen?

✨ Spend time in nature at dawn or dusk to mark the turning of the wheel.

The solstice reminds us: even in the deepest darkness, the light is always on its way back. Always.
